There’ll be lots of different questions.

Sometimes it’s hard to remember what happened a long time ago.

You can watch your video statement again before you answer questions.

Questions from lawyers

There might be a few questions or there might be a lot of questions.

You might be asked the same question more than once by different people, but you still must answer it.

  • You can ask for a break if you need it.
  • You must answer the questions if you know the answer.
  • You should not guess.
  • You can say if you’re not sure or don’t know or can’t remember.
  • You can say if something that is said is wrong.

Some of the details you’re asked about might feel embarrassing – people might use words that you might not usually say. Court is a special place where it’s OK to use words that you might not use in other places.

The court is closed to the public.  The only people who can hear you are the people involved in this case and they can’t talk about it once they have left the court.

You can have a support person with you in your room at court when you tell your story.

The people who ask the questions are the Lawyers. The person in charge is the Judge.
